Police brutality has come to be a contentious issue around the country. Particularly in New York City it has become an issue due to recent events in policing. I would love to change the relationship between the public and the police. The overall, perception of the police seems to be negative but these are the people who are given authority to protect us. If a few don’ handle their job correctly it is those few that should be punished. However, it seems to me through personal experience people really dislike cops based on the few bad cops who have overused and abused their power. The police should play more of
Another change I would make in my community is making people within it more civically engaged. I would love to have people more knowledgeable about the issues that affect them most. In this picture I was at a Bernie Sanders rally in Bronx Community College. Unfortunately, there were not many other students from the college. While I was proud to be a part of such a historic moment in which a presidential candidate has finally come to The Bronx, I was discouraged to see that not many people from around the neighborhood were there.
If I could make change in my community I would repair our infrastructure. Something as simple as a sidewalk reflects a lot about a community and the people living in it. In areas with a wealthier residents it is hard to find crumbling infrastructure. The quality of life in a neighborhood should not be affected by how much money its residents have in order to keep it up. I would also want people more aware of the fact that they could make change and even little things like cracks on the sidewalk are things they can help change.
